Las Vegas Casino Lines' cruise ship Liquid Vegas has pulled into its dock at Cruise Terminal 4 in Port Canaveral as the company prepares to start its gambling cruises by the end of the month.
"We have some training to do with our employees, but we expect to be up and running within a few weeks," said Larry Mullin, president and chief executive officer of Las Vegas Casino Lines.
Mullin said the company has to be in strict compliance with security, Coast Guard and casino regulations. As soon as every department gets approval by various government entities, the ship will make its long-awaited -- and several times delayed -- maiden gambling voyage.
The 300-foot-long Liquid Vegas will hold 800 passengers and 100 crew members. It will run two three-hour cruises daily out of Port Canaveral and also offer late-night and overnight cruises on the weekends.
Las Vegas Casino Lines plans to hire about 225 people from the more than 1,200 resumes and applications it received. Administrators hope to have a pool of resumes on hand and want to interview more workers than they will initially hire, so the company could hire for future needs.
"We're always looking for good people," Mullin said. "We have a range of departments and we need qualified people across the board."
Employees will include marine and engine crew, security, a marketing department, and employees in food and beverage, casino and administrative positions, company spokesman Tom Palermo said.
Mullin will do the training on rules and regulations but hopes to hire experienced employees for the casino.
The ship's music will be Las Vegas-style entertainment, featuring horns and brass, Mullin said.
