I check in once in a while but summer time is not gambling time for me. But . . .WOW!
Egalite, GR8 whoever you guys are really doesn't matter. But enough is enough. Why not continue your diatribe in private? I always thought you both had some good things to say about the game and that is what we are here for. I don't know exactly how either one of you play but from your hints it seems that you are on different tacks. Since you guys are not selling anything you'll not raise my ire. Paleeese bury the hatchet and discuss the game!
I see now that Virtuoid has become a believer in . . . ? Table selection! and MM! Well okay this is gambling and still is a guessing game. But I wonder if Ellis" "NOR" is better than any of the rest? It now is a matter of watching a tote board and gaining an advantage because all of a sudden past performance predicts future outcomes when it never did before! Sometimes it does and if not then keep losses low and walk - a real street grind way to play but hey . ..
What do we know about winning? #1. Practically speaking we MUST raise our bet after a loss AND we must win more of the big bets than small bets. This doesn't mean we can't start flat and see how it goes but basically we will, due to commission lose more than win so at some point we must raise the bet to recoup. How one does that is a matter of taste and bankroll. #2. We must have a bet placement scheme of some sort. Whether it is FLD or OLD or a combination of the two (OTBL, TBL). We choose from a guess and we try to learn what "seems" to have been working best and hope it repeats. What else is there?
In general most of us are going to find ourselves making very little over the long run IF we are winning. This because we WILL run into crummy shoes - just a matter of time. Virtuoid had it right in the beginning. It is ultimately a function of hands per hour. We can walk and table select all we want but the law of large numbers WILL kick in at some point. That's why the Ellis" of the world sell rather than play - always have.
OKAY - here is one of my favorite ways to play. Regarding betting I have different styles but conservatively I like to flat bet and see how it goes. If it goes well no problem and maybe even some nice parlays. If not I got to run some kind of short NP. Maybe even Ellis" modified D'Alembert which is okay because it has both up as you win and up as you lose so we can kind of choose how we play according to MM in each game.
Basically I play two games with this. First game wait for a repeat and bet OLD. I am looking for choppy shoe where there are more 2's and 3's then 5's. I lose only commission on 4's. Then I play the 1's separate. I play 1,2 NP after a 1 in a row ONLY when the 1's are normal or high in the shoe. If not I don't play the 1's at all AND if not I don't play OLD. Theory is when 1's are scarce there is more room for repeats of 2,3,4 etc. so I will a) switch to FLD or b) leave with small win or small loss.
As far as table selection I don't. Primarily because I can't. Where I play there are few seats. If I do have a choice I will look at some scorecards and naturally like anyone else I will sit where the game seems most choppy because it is easiest to beat. Rarely do I see shoes that are so streaky that I can win a lot. On streaky shoes I try to make few FLD bets and get out with a nice win. If it IS real good then of course I parlay the streak.
Not a big winner in units because I like to keep the units low.
Thanks for listening!
Archer
