I didn't read the article yet, but I can already tell I'm a much better Baccarat player......... I only lost 35.00 last night. lol
I don't understand how he loss so much. He has no discipline man!
Bryan - thanks for the post - very interesting.
When I played Mini Baccarat the other day a dealer told me when she used to work in AC ( Atlantic City ), she watched a guy blow thru $ 150,000.00 in less than 40 minutes. ( This was at a MB table; not the big bac. ) She was the dealer; this guy was betting $ 20,000.00 hands and had gotten a special exception to bet over the max limits.
This dealer told me after he lost the $ 150,000.00 he didnt even blink an eye.
It's all relative in your risk/reward. MB requires discipline to be sure.
I dont think this guy will have a legal case against the casino.
How do you lose 26 million?
1. I mentioned a book titled Deal Me In. It is about 21 of the worlds greatesr poker players. One player is a Vietnamese man who came to the US as a poor restaurant worker. One of his keys to success was discipline.
He also plays baccarat. Lost $26 million playing baccarat and went broke. Had to borrow money to get back into poker.
He had discipline for poker, none at baccarat.
2. On my last trip to Las Vegas I walked into the Bellagio, high limit room.
It was a very quiet Wednesday, and the table minimum was at $100.
I was playing alone when a 40 something Australian man sits down.
A group of floor people follow him over. They take down the sign with the table limits. He starts betting $200,000 per hand.
He doesn't even keep a score card or look at the tote board.
A total guessing game. He plays a few hands then goes to another table.
The dealer told me he was a famous drumer for an extremely popular rock group out of Australia. Typicall drops $10 to $20 million in a few
days. Appears to play totally random.
This game can be dangerously addictive.
Another cautionary tale from last December...
Whale Losses $127 million in Vegas (playing other games also).
'Whale' loses $127 million in Vegas | CNHI News Service
The casinos have smart business people running them. That is why they target “whales” like Terrance Watanabe.
The Wall Street Journal noted that even though revenues from all gambling declined by 19 percent in the last 12 months, spending increased from people playing Baccarat.
Baccarat is a game that is a favorite of whales.

The Gambler Who Blew $127 Million - WSJ.com
One reason Mr. Watanabe was seen as so valuable to Harrah's, say Messrs. Deleon and Kunder, two of his handlers, is that he gravitated toward games with low odds, including roulette and slots. "He was considered a 'house' player because slots and roulette are house games -- they have terrible odds for the player," says Mr. Kunder. "And the way he played blackjack, he made it a house game. He made such bad decisions on the blackjack table."
Several employees say Mr. Watanabe would stay at the tables for up to 24 hours, sometimes losing as much as $5 million in a single binge. He was allowed to play three blackjack hands simultaneously with a $50,000 limit for each hand. At one point, the casino raised his credit to $17 million, according to court documents.

This is why Vegas and casinos love high rollers...

That guy Alan from Toronto Canada. WTF?!?!?!?!? The way he throws money, gets hammered down then comes back for more. His Blackjack and high slot machines scenes are unbearable to watch. He was not even gambling. Worst. More like flushing money down the toilet. Six figure losses total from his Vegas escapade and looking at the way he plays, you can't feel sorry or any pity. He had it coming.
Part VII is my fav. This portion of the documentary was one of the many instances leading me into the game of baccarat. This was around 2008 a little after this documentary was made.
The guy from Toronto was so sick. He was flushing those $ 100.00 bills in that slot machine down the toilet. Why he was playing roulette I have no idea.
That guy was a problem gambler to be sure.
Those 2 salesman guys were a riot. Did you see the look that guy was giving his friend? He seemed like he was pretty wasted too. I like this line : " Whats our room number again ? " lol.
That guy was another guy without discipline.
Those youtube postings were gold - thanks so much for posting them. I really enjoyed that documentary.
If you ever run into Dan Rogers strongly recommend you sit next to him. I remember seeing him once in my first excursion into Vegas not knowing who he is and I was very amazed at him watching him playing baccarat. Then I saw this documentary and I was like WHOA! I have seen him before in person!
He also ventures into Poker from what I remember and he was ranked #8.
There are many players in casinos who lost big money play different casino games but this doesn't mean that the others have stopped playing since then. Just learn a lesson of playing in limits so that to avoid such a big loss. Better option would be to set a bankroll limit before starting any game to play. Doing this one can set a limit of money that he can afford to loose.
