Tunica Nov 29,30, 09, Gold Strike, There were 6 of us.
I had to leave a day early when my glucose meter went on the fritz. But I had been considering leaving early anyway since I was off my feed which was obvious in the Bac Tournament. I wasn't even playing the right chip denomination. Zebra was standing behind me trying to tell me and I still couldn't figure it out. I was playing off my $500 unit pile instead of my $1000 pile. I did fine winning six out of the first 7 hands but with chips too small. That's the first time I ever made that particular mistake and quickly realized I wasn't mentally ready for this trip. I always teach students to only play when you are in tip top shape. I wasn't
I was still fumbling around when I played my first Bac shoe in the same confused state and lost my first shoe in months. Fortunately I was playing very low stakes and quit very early so no real damage done except to my ego. Then I took a break to try to get it together.
That one shoe was the only one I lost but I never got up to my normal standards and my best shoe was a +21. Just couldn't get focused. The shoes were tough but not that tough. In the end I could plainly see that I should have simply stuck to Basic OTB4L. This was not easy to see because the OT count was consistently minus but we were getting unusually high TT runs. Better to play OTB4L and jump on the runs after two losses. But I usually see these things before the fact. Monday morning quarterbacking has no future in Baccarat. PJ actually did better after I left. Probably everyone did. I'm sure they'll do their own reports.
BJ didn't go much better but I only had one losing table. They have a hand shuffled pit and a machine shuffled pit. They have 1,2 and 6 deck. I stuck to 1 and 2, high stakes, usually playing head to head. The first day the machine shuffled pit was clearly the better. The second day the hand shuffled pit was clearly the better. My one losing table was a machine shuffled table the second day. I was getting all type C hands. Type C hands are hands you can't win no matter how you play them. So I switched pits and had no more losers. But I usually start with a 112 prog and progress to a 123, then 134, then 146. This trip I never got above the 112. That was a first. Every table was tough as nails. Usually I quit a table 5 or 6 piles up. This trip I was happy to quit 1 pile up. I'm sure it was at least partially me but I'm also sure it wasn't all me. Geez, At one point I tried to fold with a 6 card 21. It's a good thing the dealer caught it in time. I NEVER made a mistake like that before. The casino really had it together. But I never felt in control the entire trip which is highly unusual for me.
Overall I felt I did well just to get out of there with more money than I walked in with. My worst trip in probably 15 years. But the guys were great and I had a fun time even if I didn't get rich this trip. The casino was also great and very generous with their comps. Again, they gave us our own very well stocked hospitality suite right near the Bac pit. I highly recommend this casino.
