Very cool
I found this exchange on 2+2:
Maybe I completely missed a thread about this subject but is was posted today by a mod at the Dutch pokernews forum.
Apparently Ivey was playing baccarat for 300K a hand (table limit). He started at the table with a 100K but was quickly up to 3 million.
The next day he starts to play again when a mobster with the name 'Cousin Joe' walks up to the table. He asks if Ivey wants to lower his bets to 270K so he can bet 30K himself. Ivey tells him to **** off when the gangster get's angry and threatens to get him whacked and it wouldn't even cost him $ 500.
After using (a cuss word) the gangster get's kicked out of the casino and Ivey leaves Australia the next day. Word is he dropped around 10 million at the baccarat tables.
Did anyone see what happened in the casino and the amounts Ivey was playing?Yeah, I was there for all the action. It was CRAZY!!!! The action went like this:
Ivey plays 300k a hand and ends up losing 10 million. I know this is an exact figure because I brought by Baccarat Tracker laptop with me.
The dialog between Ivey and Counsin Joe went like this:
Cousin Joe: I am Counsin Joe a mobster and I would like to place a 30k wager.
Phil Ivey: F off.
Cousin Joe: I could have you whacked for ONLY $500, you [edit].
Then security was called and Cousin Jow was escorted out of the casino. I saw Phil Ivey catch a flight out of Australia the next day.
Whoever did the reporting at the Dutch PokerNews forum was dead on balls accurate.
Great Post Stranger, and glad I was there to catch all the action!FWIW, here is a picture of "Cousin Joe" from the PLO tournament:
Not sure what Ivey's total loss/profit for the trip was w/ regards to baccarat, however one night he did have a heavy loss. Playing in the mahogeny(sp?) room (highrollers room @ crown) my brother spoke with a guy that was just up, and Ivey had lost 2 and a half mil. I guess if he was smart he wouldve stopped their and saved his losses but who knows. At last year's WSOP, my friend witnessed Ivey play two hands of baccarrat at 100k each. Ivey lost both and left.
Grinder and his wife were also known to be high stakes baccarrat players racking up huge losses.
