Default Cantor Gaming eDeck: Portable Baccarat Casino via Wi-Fi

While the Cantor Gaming eDeck isn't much to look at on the outside, I imagine on the inside it's much more impressive: any Wi-Fi-equipped device that lets you gamble with real money, interfacing directly with servers operated by Las Vegas casinos, has to have most of its security hatches battened.

It's not designed for portable gaming for just anyone, though, but instead will be handed out to casino patrons at the Venetian Resort Hotel in Las Vegas. Wouldn't want any patrons to spend a moment away from gambling, even when they're back in their hotel room on the can. (For now, the eDeck only works in the high-stakes gambling lounge while they test it out.)

The first wave of games are traditional casino experiences, but Cantor is working on live-action video poker, sports betting, and even non-traditional gaming that could reward winners with real cash.

    From the product website:

Cantor Gaming has introduced mobile Gaming to Nevada via its unique, wireless hand-held gaming device: eDeck™.

eDeck can be played in the High Limit Slot Salon at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. You can play your choice of slots, blackjack, baccarat, video poker, and either European or American roulette. Coming soon to the eDeck selection of games will be Cantor’s proprietary games including Bonus Roulette™, XtraOdds Baccarat™ and Statjack™.

While spending every second of your Vegas vacation gambling sounds terrific, everyone knows a room-service club sandwich can properly be enjoyed only in your room. Take your crippling addiction mobile, with the eDeck, now test-running at the Venetian.

After five years of development and regulatory approval, LV-based Cantor Gaming's unleashed a wi-fi'd PSP-like device that lets you play for real money on-the-go, free from obnoxious fellow players and dealers so deep in your head you can't even get your drink order right. Just set up an account with an attendant, log in with your player's card/PIN, roam around and get your game on; later, assuming you don't accidentally send your winnings to voicemail, press a cashout button to retrieve your e-lucre from the cashier. Current fun includes blackjack, baccarat, slots, video poker, and roulette (American or European); future offerings will include live-action poker, sportsbook parlays, and proprietary games like the one Cantor's creating based on characters from Heavy Metal magazine -- so instead of losing money to a shifty guy in a bow tie, you can lose it to a busty space valkyrie.

During the prelim trial, the eDeck'll only work in the Venetian's high-stakes slots lounge, but assuming all goes well, you'll soon be able to use it throughout the hotel: at the pool, in the club, and, maybe someday, in your room -- where feasting and betting you'll utter that fateful line, "This club sandwich will pay for itself".

    from ohgizmo:

In Las Vegas the casinos do everything they can to keep you on the gaming floor so that you’re spending as much time as possible emptying your pockets during your stay. But a company called Cantor Gaming has realized there are still a lot of missed opportunities where a casino guest might be away from the poker tables and slot machines. (Eating at a restaurant, lounging by the pool etc.) So the company spent 5 years developing the eDeck which is a wifi equipped portable gaming device that allows casino patrons to gamble and play for real money wherever they happen to be.

Once you’ve setup an account, and have logged in on the device, you’ll be able to play casino favorites like blackjack, baccarat, slots, video poker and roulette. In the future the company hopes to offer new games including live-action poker, sports betting and even proprietary games. (Imagine Tetris played head-to-head for real money.) The eDeck is currently being tested by the Venetian, but at the moment the wireless network restricts the device to only working in the high-stakes slots lounge. But eventually, if the preliminary tests go well, you’ll be able to use the device everywhere in the hotel, even in your own room.
