Thread: Very basic rule questions: catch dealer mistakes and any easy to remember slogans?

Most of the books I've read on baccarat include the basic rules, a Third Card Chart, and something along the lines of "don't worry about remembering any of this, as the dealer knows what to do." That's probably true, but over the past 24 years of BJ and craps, I've managed to catch more a few dealer mistakes on every trip and don't particularly relish being at the dealer's "mercy."

Being relatively new to mini bac, I'm curious: Do most mini bac players know the rules well enough to catch dealer mistakes, and are there any easy to remember slogans for recalling the correct plays? (Kind of like "any, even, 5" for remembering true odds at craps and other such slogans .) Thanks!

Perhaps baccarat would not be such a difficult game to beat, logically anyway, were its rules more-general, or its plays more-diversified. Just not much room for mnemonics.

I have experienced fewer dealer-errors at baccarat than bj; but have found it a good idea to keep track of each game because other players may point out errors only when it benefits, or is likely to, only themselves. (I once had a very small bet down versus a large bet among many others "against" my lone player-bet when the dealer erred in their favor. I kept quiet, but alas wasn't rewarded for it. An other thing i've noticed wrt baccarat only, is that that phone in the pit-area rings far-less frequently after a dealer-irregularity.)

A common way to remember the 3rd card drawing rules
is to know these combinations:

427
547
667
38 "Special"

Explanation:

When Banker's 1st two cards total 4, another card is
drawn for Banker if Players 3rd card is 2 thru 7.

When Banker's 1st two cards total 5, another card is
drawn for Banker if Players 3rd card is 4 thru 7.

When Banker's 1st two cards total 6, another card is
drawn for Banker if Players 3rd card is 6 or 7.

When Banker's 1st two cards total 3, another card is
NOT drawn for Banker if Players 3rd card is 8.
