If events can be altered by observation then perhaps the knowledge of a future event - predicting it - would actually alter the now predicted event thus making the predicted event different from the currently known prediction.

The mass consciousness experiment is interesting, but knowing AN event is about to occur and knowing THE event that is about to occur are two very very different situations.
