tee kong kia, generally speaking, the more money involved, the more cheating. Sometimes just the consistent winners are targeted; and, because it's easier than going through the paper-work of (formally) banning a player. (A good reason to not draw attention to one's self at any time.)
I don't speak of cheating per se unless i've seen it first-hand because there's just too many "stories" out there. But here's some of MY own observations, and stories, from live-dealer games, in which casinos usually put out (before-unseen) "ringers" to do the dirty work.
The primary purpose of the cameras is to keep track of the staff. VERY few players (try to) cheat the casinos. (Players are more likely to cheat other players.) I've seen staff much more often cheat players (and sometimes casinos,) eg by short changing the player coloring up, and palming the difference. (I had a dealer short change me a black chip once, and after i complained to the MANAGEMENT i NEVER again saw that dealer at that casino. And to lose your job at one casino is to never get another at another.)
At one big mini-baccarat game i noticed a dealer having trouble racking up the discards. But it got more and more obvious. I mean she was really working the blue deck over. I didn't think any more of it until the blue deck came back into play (,and she was long gone,) and the cards started coming out of the shoe boxed (,face-up.) I guess the shuffler machine does that to bent cards. Anyways, and as i had already figured out, the dealer calls the pit-boss over to "make a ruling", the pit-boss "studies" things, then rules against the big bets as much as possible: with CONFLICTING rulings on 3 or 4 different games! That's the most common form of cheating in
bj, using the disputed plays.
And one time while i was up pretty good over the month in a $20 (my bet) game of
bj all of a sudden the dealer stopped taking my instructions (to split, etc.) I mean, i was in last position, and he'd just go by me and take my money. (You can't win often with ,eg, a pair of unsplit 2's.) Just for hellry i sued. I won, but it's TOO MUCH work. However, it WAS a real eye-opener about how things work overall (, if you know what i mean.)
